The Port Augusta branch of Rural Australians for Refugees formed in October 2002 in response to the opening of the Baxter Immigration and Detention Facility in October 2002.

Our Purpose is to:

  • Make life more bearable for the people detained in the centre
  • Improve community attitudes to people detained in the centre
  • Provide support to each other
  • Be a point of reference for other visiting / inquiring support groups
  • Affect Government policy
