BAXTER CLOSED

The Baxter Detention Centre was closed on August 20, 2007. The few remaining detainees were sent to Sydney, so losing their local support, friends and vistors. The pain continues . . . .

There is a new visitors centre and a new fax number. To send your forms in via fax you need to use : 86418931. People have found the processing to be slow - so expect delays.
As of January this year, there are new visiting hours:
Monday: 10-1300, 1400-1700 and no visits at night
Tuesday: No visits in the morning then 1200-1600 and 1700-2000
Wednesday: No visits in the morning then 1300-1600 and 1800-2000
Thursday: 9:00-12:00 church service and bible study from 13:00-1700 then visits from 1800-2000
Friday: 1000-1300, 1400-1700 then no visit in the evening
Saturday: No visit in the morning, then 1200-1600 and 1700-2000
Sunday: 1000-1300, 1400-1700 and no visits in the evening
If you have made contact with someone in Baxter, and you want to know the best way to visit, to make phone calls, to send gifts etc, you should contact RURAL AUSTRALIANS FOR REFUGEES for advice. They can send you some very comprehensive information which will save you time, money and disappointment.

New Forms for Baxter

The Visitors Centre at Baxter has issued new forms for intending visitors. The Conditions of Entry has gone from one page to three, but only the last page has to be filled out. All sheets must, after signing, be faxed or posted back. Forms can be collected from the Visitors Centre at Baxter or downloaded from this website. Go to the Contacting Detainees link from this page.
